Isadore JohnsonFrom drug charges and decade long bids, to published author. Isadore Johnson has definitely taken a turn off the road that led him into the grips of the drug game. Growing up in a single parent home, the eldest of three boys, Johnson has definitely endured his share of hardships. After serving more than half his life in correctional facilities, Isadore knew it was time for a change. Determined to make a transformation for the better, he started to write tales that could serve as both a precautionary for youngsters looking to make the same mistakes he has, and a juicy page-turner for any Urban literature buff. With Drug Dealer parts 1 and 2 grabbing the attention of many, Isadore is hard at work on his next novel, Wrongfully Mine, which he promises wonít disappoint his fans.

Take a glimpse into the life of Isadore Johnson, one of Street literatures, promising authors.

UBS: Reading your bio, we know that you have experienced many hardships in your life. What is your advice to the young people caught up in the drug game?
Isadore:
My advice to the youth involved in the drug game or contemplating getting involved, would be for them to first open their eyes, develop a true understanding of their decision, and then ask themselves if itís really worth it before jumping out the window with no parachute. I mean that to say, donít get involved in the drug game just because of your desire for a quick dollar. Iíve seen it countless times when an individual dives into the game for the superficial purposes of gaining street status, material things, women, etc. but found out the hard way that that was only one side of the game. Along with all that came the flipside ó the harsh and almost inevitable reality of jealousy, betrayal, murder, criminal conviction, prison, etc. And most of the time when the flip side of the game is encountered, they didnít even see it coming or canít handle it. That was due to their lack of understanding of the ill-profession they had chosen. In my book, I have some dialog that specifically addresses this issue. One of my younger characters questions an older and more experienced ones about why itís so hard to survive in the drug game and he answers, ďItís because the hood didnít create the drug game ó it was tossed into our laps by design. Itís not meant for us to survive or make it rich and retire happy. Anytime you have someone taking on a lifestyle without any prior knowledge or experience, is blinded foolishness. Itís like a trying to be surgeon with no medical schooling or being a champion boxer but not knowing how to fight. You walk in a loser before you even begin.

UBS: What motivated you to start writing?
Isadore:
My motivation to start writing began while I was serving almost a decade in Federal Prison for a drugs and guns charge. Prior to that, I had just done a considerable amount of time in prison in New Jersey for murder. So, I had to take a step back and look in the mirror at the direction my life was going in. I quickly decided at that point that I wanted to be more than just the average knuckle head running around in the hood carrying guns selling coke and shooting the first n***a that went against that. I wanted to really count. So I began writing. By the time I finished my time, I had numerous books completed.

UBS: What do you hope your readers will take from your book?
Isadore:
The tons of info that Iíve embedded inside of them. Information was one of the main reasons why I specifically choose writing as my new life because it provided me with a way to demonstrate my imaginative talents of drama, suspense, action, and sex while sharing knowledge in between the lines.

UBS: On your site you ask your readers who they think the real drug dealer is, ďThe kid on the block with the pocket full of stones? Or the big timer in the Benz with the crib in the hills?Ē Who is the real culprit of the drug problem in our neighborhoods?
Isadore:
I will say this. We are the most powerful country on planet earth ó a country that runs and helps other countries in distress. Do you think that we would be in a position to do that if we couldnít guard our own borders against the importation of narcotics? We are not talking about grams here ó weíre talking about tons. Thatís the weight of an elephant.

UBS: What else can we expect from Urblennium in the future? Any upcoming projects or books?
Isadore:
Yes, you can expect a great deal of upcoming projects from Urb-lennium Publishing L.L.C. Right now, I am working on releasing my new work entitled Wrongfully Mine part 1 & 2, and also Snitch. They are stories that I know my reading audience who loved Drug Dealer parts 1 & 2 will find equal enjoyment. We have other talented authors with work on the way. Weíre also involved in talks and reviewing offers made to us on doing ďDrug DealerĒ the motion picture.

UBS: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Isadore:
Well, I described a great deal about myself in my bio. To add, I am a very down to earth dude from the hood, who still maintains a VALID ghetto pass! Although currently Iím not, I have a strong desire to become family orientated ó itís kind of hard when one has been caged up the majority of his life. So Iím trying to establish that aspect with the members of my family whoís willing to extend themselves. Iím outgoing, spontaneous, aggressive, and very determined.

UBS: With a lot of people calling Urban Fiction a phase that will soon fade away, what do you see in the future of Urban fiction? And what do you think of the Urban Fiction trend right now?
Isadore:
The pessimists (haters) who say Urban Fiction is just a phase that will soon fade away, will be proven wrong just like they were about the issue of rap. Urban writing has been around since the time of Donald Goines and itís still here. Us as a writing community just have to come together and take charge of our industry. Power is best executed in numbers. Thatís the only way the mainstream writing world will respect our presence. Learn the business and stay professional.

UBS: What would you say to those who are bashing the urban/street fiction genre?
Isadore:
Again to all the haters, all the time and energy thatís being implemented on hating what we do instead could be channeling it to do something beneficial for themselves.

UBS: How did you get your start in the publishing industry?
Isadore:
I got my start in the publishing industry through Urb-lennium Publishing L.L.C. which is based in Orange, New Jersey and owned by Harrison Johnson ó who happens to be my younger brother. With the recognition of my writing talent and his knack for business, we decided why not publish my work and retain ownership.

UBS: What advice would you give an upcoming author/writer?
Isadore:
My advice to upcoming writers: If you donít have true intentions on finishing the project, donít even start it. Readers only know of authors that cross the finish line. Never write with money on your mind.
