It is the perfect example of street lit when it matures.” But don’t take their word for it check out our exclusive interview:
Why did you decide to write a novel?
Jackie-O: Well, I’ve always been a writer since grade school. I’ve written poetry, then rap music, and then novels. Writing this book was a challenge because I decided to use characters that I had to do research on. I’m from Miami and the places, people and drama in my book is all surrounded around the Northeast region so I was challenged with this piece.
How did that come about?
Jackie-O: I was working on a song with C-Murder and decided to talk to him about other projects I was working on and Grown and Gangsta was one of the projects. I decided to have him release the novel on his publishing company.
What is G and G about?
Jackie-O: Grown & Gangsta is about life. It has a lot of twists and turns. I guarantee the reader will laugh, cry and feel for these characters…six friends that endure life, with its ups and downs, manage to hold on to the one thing that matters the most: friendship.
Describe your style?
Jackie-O: My style is very unpredictable and can best be described as edgy and tasteful.
What books and authors do you read?
Jackie-O: I usually read books like The Art of War by Sun Tzu or 48 Laws of Power. Told you I was unpredictable.
Is this a side job to your rap career?
Jackie-O: This is just one of my side jobs, but with each endeavor I take and I allow my fans to take with me, I plan to give them the best of me.
What’s happening on that side of your life?
Jackie-O: I don’t really have a personal life, by choice. I try to stay focused.
What do you hope to accomplish with your book?
Jackie-O: With this book I hope to accomplish literacy in the hip-hop world and show young people it’s good to read.
Do you have any other novels in the works?
Jackie-O: Yes, I do, and I will share them as soon as they are complete.
What’s next for Jackie-O?
Jackie-O: I’m a person of opportunity, so with everyday I welcome all opportunities to better me as a person, artist, author, and beyond. There’s no limit to what any of us can do. Let’s just say I’m gonna go for it.
